One of the first movers in the online knowledge space for school children, meritnation’s co-founder Pavan Chauhan shares his remarkable journey with 4Ps B&M
 

What are your plans for the future?

As the pioneers, the biggest challenge for us is to cater to and shape the aspirations of students and to make them more effective and efficient. When we started in 2009, there were no online education companies catering to the K-12 segment. Therefore, content was the focus. We created world-class learning aids and used technology for providing customized education to students. Now that many companies are creating content and it is no longer a scarce resource, we are working to transition ourselves from a pure play content company to a service company.

We feel the tuition market in India is very inefficient and is extremely unorganised, especially for the junior classes. We want to make studies more effective by removing inefficiencies of the physical tuition market. Overall, we see online tuitions replacing physical tuition in the upcoming few years and we want to be the harbinger for this change.

With competition heating up in the ed-tech sector, a unique branding strategy helps one stay ahead of competition. What is meritnation’s USP?

What makes meritnation unique is the fact that we have the largest repository of high end quality content spread across the top boards in the country. The learning resources by meritnation.com range from high-quality multimedia study material, tests, detailed reports, curriculum-aligned activities to specific online test packs for entrance exam requirements.

Gamified learning, attractive multimedia tutorials, live lectures taken by top notch IIT-ians as part of our faculty have attracted more than 1 crore users to the website. As far as technology is concerned, meritnation aims to remain ahead in the technology adoption curve, its content is available on popular mobile platforms like Android and IOS. We are investing in developing adaptive learning platforms that will be capable of customizing the content for each of its students.

meritnation.com is a knowledge company. Its biggest assets are people. A significant percent of our investment goes into people. The education sector is a highly research intensive sector and as a company, we are constantly investing in new research and development. We believe that having the right people (those with the right talent, skills & knowledge) in the right roles, with the right leaders is the key to an organization’s success.

We are lucky to continue to have a large number of people, who were with us when we started the site in 2009. These people have grown with the organization and now don larger responsibilities. On our way, many young, bright and committed people, who wanted to make a difference to the way education is imparted in this country, joined us and today we have a great team which is dramatically committed, passionate and is driven.
